Drowned during the battle of Vermillion Bayou - 4/18/1863 at the age of 22

Horace was born in NH, on Shirley Hill Farm, in 1841. In 1862 when he was 21 years old, he mustered with the 16th NH volunteer regimen of the union army. They shipped out for New Orleans in December and in April were involved in the battle of Vermillion Bayou, where Horace drowned when confederates burned a bridge and fired upon the approaching union soldiers.
